I. Surface preparation for concrete (old and new):
The concrete surface must be smooth, leveled, dry, clean, free of oil stains and existing coat or paints. These can be accomplished by doing the following:
2. For old concretes, removal of dirt, oil and loosed concretes must be accomplished first to expose the clean concrete part. This can be done using a hand grinder.
3. Patching pin holes and large cracks should be done using any concrete fillers or putty. Once dried, can proceed to smoothening or grinding works.
1. Newly constructed flooring are easier to clean. A hand grinder can be used to remove dried concrete debris left on the flooring or even some uneven areas. It is also best to use diamond blade with concrete polisher. You may seek professional help for best concrete grinding service or polishing work.
3. Sweep thoroughly the working area and it is recommended to use a vacuum cleaner to clean up the concrete dust.
II. Mixture:
1. FLOORING M83 is a 3:1 epoxy to hardener ratio by weight. Use weighing scale to exactly mix 3 parts of A to 1 part of B. Example is 3 Kg A (epoxy) to be mixed with 1 Kg B (hardener) 2. Mix Part A and Part B thoroughly. When mixing manually using sticks, make sure to stir constantly in no less than 5 minutes especially for large projects and whenever mixing with colour pigments. (Do not over mix more than 10 minutes to avoid getting over heating and unwanted quick curing). 3. If desired to use a colour pigment combined with epoxy resin, it is recommended to be mixed with Part A first before mixing with Part B to save working time. A recommended maximum of 4% colour pigment shall be the limit of each total mixture of Part A and Part B. 4. After making sure that the epoxy were mixed well, it can now be applied. Pour in different spots of the project area and spread evenly using a roller. Make sure to pour right away in the working area and prevent keeping the epoxy resin in the bucket too long to again prevent over heating and unwanted quick curing.
5. Do not pour more than 10mm thick at once to prevent internal stresses and cracks during curing. It is also recommended to use Onyx PRIMER SL1 Epoxy Resin for initial seal coat to the substrate prior to the application for best results.
III. Curing And Working Time:
1. Curing Time: 8 hours at 25 deg.C 2. Working Time: 45 minutes at 25 deg. C
IV. Special notes for a long term and best quality result:
1. Make sure that the substrate is clean and dry. Users may follow the recommended surface preparation above.
2. For long term quality and other attributes such as transparency and gloss effect, this product is only recommended for indoor applications.
3. Mix only with compatible pigment powder, dyes, toners, etc. for the best aesthetic and quality result. We recommend using our own Onyx Mica Pearl Luster Pigments.
4. Use only after 7 days of curing period especially for heavy traffic service (e.g. parking, garage, etc.)
5. The maximum temperature this cured epoxy can handle is up to 85 deg.C, beyond may lead to distortion.
6. Not recommended for mould pouring or casting. Use CASTINGZ85 or DEEPCAST250 instead.
7. To prevent and minimised the bubbles trap within the poured epoxy, make sure to spread the epoxy continuously within the working area.
8. Make sure that the Relative Humidity (RH) of the working space is less than 85%. Any coating including epoxies may accumulate moisture at the surface that may lead to white mist, uneven cured resin and worst delamination of the epoxy when cured.
Safety Precautions:
Onyx Epoxy Resins are safe for home use and are none volatile, but strict safe work practices are still required.
1. Skin irritation varies from person to person, that is why when working with epoxy resins, always wear protective equipment like gloves, apron, shoe cover rugs, spiked booties or even a disposable coverall to avoid direct skin contact especially when mixing, pouring and spreading on a large work. In case skin contact happens, immediately rub with a clean towel or paper then thoroughly wash with water and soap. Do not clean your skin with cleaning solvents like thinners, acetone, mineral spirits, etc. since these chemicals can penetrate your bare skin.
2. Work in a very well ventilated space and always wear a mask. For poor ventilation and tight working areas, a respirator is required to reduce and/or even eliminate any health risks. Some will smell the resin, some don't. Most people identify the smell as the fumes but they're not the same. Onyx Epoxies are very stable during the reaction and no VOC or fumes is vaporised during the reaction, but continuous, repeated and long term exposure still may cause irritation to the respiratory tract.
3. Use protective goggles or even a face shield to keep your eyes safe especially during sanding and even from accidental contact of the epoxy resin with your eyes. Epoxy can cause eye irritation and swelling. In case this happens, don't rub instead continuously wash with running water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention immediately.
4. Do not swallow this product. Immediately seek medical attention if this happens.
5. Test first this product with a small amount of mixture to minimise mistakes during the actual work.
6. Keep out of reach of children.
Storage And Shelf life:
1. Store in a clean, dry place between 8-25 deg.C. 2. Keep away from humid, heat and direct sunlight. 3. Recommended to use after opening. 4. Shelf life is 12 months at 70% RH and 25 deg.C.
